Some tombstones were still visible as late as the mid 1980s but many were broken and missing. This is the resting place of Noyes Canfield (1782-1860) and his wife Francis Tyler (1786-1855) who were the first Canfields to settle in Dearborn County in 1800. Sarah, a daughter of Henry Canfield & Charlotte Chisman (1849-1850), granddaughter of Noyes & Fanny, is buried between them and is the earliest known burial up there.
Noyes' footer is there with the initials N.C. as is possibly another infant. There is also a footer with the initials that appear to be J.P.B., but unknown who this might be.
The Brandt family, who currently owns the property, have cleared the burial area, built a gazebo-type entrance and erected a wrought iron fence around all the burials, truly making it an impressive burial location with a beautiful view of the Brandt farm and across the Hogan River to the old Marion Canfield farm.
