Cemetery notes and/or description:
Maly Trostenets Extermination Camp was located 7.5 miles east of Minsk, in Eastern Belarus. The camp was built by the Nazis in 1941 to house Soviet prisoners captured during Operation Barbarossa. In May, 1942, the Nazis used the camp as an extermination camp and the first Jewish prisoners began arriving. Although the camp's primary purpose was to exterminate the Jewish population of Minsk, transports of Jews arrived from Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic regions. Only two Jewish prisoners are known to have survived this camp. Today, nothing remains of the camp but a Memorial Complex.
