|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Sara Sims Cemetery was designated as a cemetery in the early 1970's. The cemetery was plotted at that time to move bodies from what is now Barton Memorial Park. Many of the bodies there were in the construction path of Interstate 95.
The cemetery was named after long time local resident Sara(h) Sims (1863-1958). She is buried here in the cemetery that bears her name.
Articles written about the history of Sara Sims cemetery describe it as being a segregation-era cemetery used mainly by blacks. Local stories date it to the 1950s. Records are incomplete for early burials.
Few grave markers exist. Many of the deceased at Sara Sims cemetery were indigents buried by Palm Beach County between 1988 and 1994. No headstones were placed.
Although the cemetery is active the last burial was in 2004.
