|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Alpaugh cemetery begin closure in 1940. The Board of Trustees requested the removal of bodies, buried there, to the Tulare Public Cemetery, Tulare County, California. A Mr. Billing kept the records. The cemetery was about 9 acres and most of the burials were on one acre. The graves were covered with weeds and the water level had risen so it was not practical to have more burials in this cemetery. There were 37 graves located and the attempt to contact all the family members for permission for removal was done. The Tulare Cemetery District donated graves and the body removal was at the expense of this district. It took months of effort to get the consents and gradual removals of the bodies begun on 17 October 1941 with completion of the 37 removals a year or so later. The Alpaugh Cemetery property deed was cleared and the 9 acres were sold by the Tulare Public District in 1986. It has been farm land since the late 1940s.
This cemetery has been closed since 1940 and has not been in existence since 1942.
All requests for pictures and burials should be addressed to the Tulare Public Cemetery
