|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The land for this cemetery was given by Mr. Bonham Wells and later owned by Mr. J E C Hundley. Later the farmland changed hands to the Mitchell family and the cemetery rested peacefully for more than a century behind a barn at the corner of Snow Hill Road and what is today known as Mountain View Road (at mile marker 11 on I-75) overlooking Wolftever Creek and Mill Run Subdivision.
Unfortunately, the farm was sold, became zoned commercial, and in 2009,the cemetery was dug up with a legal battle ensuing from a lone family member. The contractors won and the bodies and headstones were moved to mass grave a few hundred yards from the orginal site.
There were many unmarked graves (possibly as many as 100). I made pictures (many stones illegible) but have transferred as much info as I could read along with what Tim Stowell had previously submitted to the USGenWeb Archives.
A memorial marker has been erected and most of the original headstones have been placed over the mass grave for preservation. The new site is very peaceful.
