There is a thorough history of the Buffalo church given in the book "Slate Lick Reunion 1987" which describes the different church buildings and when they were built.
The first church was a log building about 30 feet square, built by Abram Smith and William Minteer in 1815. William and his wife and several children and grandchildren are buried here. Abram probably is, too, but his grave is unmarked, as are some others who were recorded as buried here.
The second church was built in 1844 on a plot of ground donated by James Rayburn, father of James and Matthew Rayburn. (So the book states, but the elder James had died in 1837, so it was really the son who donated the land. Both sons are buried here, and their parents are buried in the Slate Lick U.P. Church Cemetery.)
The third church was built in 1886. It was a frame building, 35 by 55 feet, but it burned down in 1918, and was replaced by the current brick structure.
The following is a quote of the final part of the article in the book:
"In November 1960, just one year short of its 150th Anniversary of existence, the Buffalo U.P. congregation and the Slate Lick Presbyterian congregation merged becoming the Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church. The adjoining burial ground still bears the name of Buffalo United Presbyterian Church Cemetery as a cemetery association was formed in 1960. The red brick building continues in use. It was sold to an individual, and later acquired by a Reformed Presbyterian Congregation that still worships there."
See William Minteer's Memorial page for more details concerning the history of the Buffalo U.P. Church.
