PLOT: Saint Mary Cemetery PLOT: Saint Ignatius de Loyal Cemetery The Church of the Immaculate Conception (also known as St. Mary's Church) founded on 8 December 1893, was the first Polish Parish in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. The first pastor assigned to the Parish was Reverend Francis Makowski, who is buried at Saint Mary Cemetery. By the turn of the 21st century the church was overflowing due to large number of Polish immigrates moving in the community to work in the mines and factories. As a result Saint Ignatius de Loyola Parish, a second Polish Parish was established October 26, 1902 in nearby Glendale, Scott Township, Allegheny County. Reverend Andrew Dziatkowiec was assigned as Pastor to form the new parish. It appears that on 1 September 1903 both parish together purchased a triangle shaped parcel 7.294 acres in Scott Township, Allegheny. The parcel was divided in half with Saint Mary Cemetery, 4 acres, and Saint Ignatius de Loyal Cemetery, 3.924 acres. The parcel was officially divided at a later date. The grave markers in Saint Mary Cemetery face southeast, or parallel to the entrance road. In the Saint Ignatius de Loyal cemetery the grave markers face south west towards Swallow Hill Road.
