Cemetery notes and/or description: The land for this cemetery was donated on July 25, 1808 by Stephen Rowe and Nathaniel Granniss. The burying ground was divided into eighty lots, five of which were "reserved for strangers" (potters field). All lots were fifteen by thirty feet. The first burial was in 1808, of a child of Stephen Bunnell. For the first forty years, there is no knowledge or records of how many were buried. The first record of burials began in 1848 by Mr. Lester Mabry until 1883. The first regular sexton was Mr. Seth Barnes. The legislature granted a charter incorporating The Fair Haven Union Cemetery in 1856. In 1857 the lots were numbered, a map was made of the ground. The original acre has been enlarged by several additions until now it measures about seven acres. The above from the Fair Haven Union Cemetery Association, Its Origin, History, By-Laws and Regulations, dated 1923. This cemetery runs in a north south direction. There are Avenues A,B,C,D,E. The entrance on Grand Avenue is Avenue A on the east, followed by B, to avenue E on the west side of the cemetery. Each avenue has plots on each side. This cemetery today is not clearly marked. The old plot plan from 1923 shows 519 plots.
