|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Magee/McCord Cemetery This cemetery is located in the Bright Star community on the east side of the county. The cemetery originated when a family that had been traveling through the community had a death in the family; they could not bury the family member at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery because of the rainy winter. Eli MAGEE allowed the family to bury their loved one on his property. After others in the community & members of the MAGEE family were buried there, Eli MAGEE deeded the land for cemetery use. Since the cemetery adjoins the McCORD land, who were cousins to the MAGEEs, the cemetery has sometimes been referred to as the McCord Cemetery. In 1980 there were reportedly approximately 100 graves in the cemetery along with unmarked graves for slaves.
