|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The cemetery is surrounded on two sides by the Hillcrest Cemetery (east and south) and a large terraced area sits in the center known as Baptist Cemetery. The north side is bound by Pineville Avenue. The cemetery is officially Pineville but some older generation continue to refer to it as Baptist Cemetery out of loyalty and respect.
Information provided by a local genealogical society states that the area of Pineville Cemetery was the property of Warren Jackson and his wife, Annie Barnett. It was used as a student center when the Patrick Henry Junior College was formed in the mid-sixties and classes were held at the Baptist and Methodist churches (now Alabama Southern Junior College on Hwy-21 south). Some 40 years ago the property was purchased by Julius and Johnny Johnson of Johnson Funeral Home and the area was renamed Pineville Cemetery.
The Pineville-Baptist-Hillcrest cemeteries are located directly across the street from the First Baptist Church of Monroeville on Pineville Avenue. If driving from the courthouse square take Pineville Avenue (also known as Hwy-21) and the cemetery is less than ½ mile east. If traveling from the Hwy-21/47 bypass, turn left onto Pineville Avenue and the cemetery is approximately ¼ mile west.
