Illinois Twp. Location from Anson: 1½ N, 1 E, ½ N.
Mary A Worden received a School Patent from the State of Kansas dated Feb 18, 1882 for all of the SW¼ of Sec 36. By a Warranty Deed dated June 26, 1886, she deeded this SW¼ to Alonzo Riner, EXCEPT the following:
"Three acres in the Northwest corner of said Southwest Quarter laid off for a cemetery, described as follows: Beginning at the NW corner of said SW¼, then South 24 rods, then East 20 rods, then North 24 rods, then West 20 rods to beginning; Also, EXCEPTING 2 acres lying immediately South of the above tract set off for the use of the M E Church to build a church building, said tract to remain in the hands of the said grantors for the term of 5 years and if not occupied for Church purposes, said 2 acres shall go to said Riner, his heirs, or assigns, EXCEPTING a tract 12 x 24 feet, where the parents of said Worden are buried."
Later his cemetery was deeded to Illinois Twp on Oct 15, 1927.
The oldest legible marker is that for Katie Moulton, died Oct 2, 1878, age 1 yr, 9 mo.
