Cemetery notes and/or description:
The Old Alton Cemetery had been in use long before the year 1864 when Eugene L. Fry was buried: his is just the oldest readable record. The town of Alton was the county seat of Denton County at one time. It was located a short distance southeast of this cemetery nearer the creek. When it was decided to move the town nearer the center of hte county, the name was changed to "Denton" honoring John B. Denton. The oldest graves are marked with native sandstones and are located in the center of the cemetery.
