Contributed by Marty C. Byzewski: Veseleyville Village is located about 35 miles North-West of Grand Forks ND. Take the I-29 north 11 Miles and exit at Manvel taking the 81 north 20 miles to Minto ND and then go west on County Road 15 about 9 miles. On the first big curve you will spot the town about one mile north. The Cemetery is located on the North East side of the village behind St Lukeís Church. The Cemetery is maintained by the church and is laid out in a long lateral configuration running East/West. The stones are facing south.
One interesting historical fact was most of the Veseleyville area Bohemian and Moravian families had originally settled in Spillville Iowa in the 1860ís but due to droughts and insect infestations most of them moved about 1880 to Walsh Co in covered wagons and resettled. Some of the early founding families were Votava, Dusek, Reyleck, Barta, Karnik, Burianek, Sedivy,Tupa, Lust, Kasal, Janousek, Houska, Kerian, Dvorak, Krile, Suda, Kubesh, Peterka, Chromy, Novak, Stroble and Ruzicka.
I walked and read this cemetery in one day in the summer of 2004, using my digital camera. I have transcribed from those photos, which include all existing and legible stones or markers. I am willing to share photos, and Walsh Co, Polish and Czech Genealogy information if anyone wishes to contact me.
