Cemetery notes and/or description:
Mt. Pleasant Cemetery is located in the community of Simpson in Vernon Parish. In Slagle at the junction of LA Hwy. 8 & 121, go east toward Simpson for 6.6 miles and turn right on Shadywood Dr. From LA Hwy. 8 in Simpson go approximately 3.0 miles southwest of the Simpson High School. When you turn on Shadywood Dr. go about 1 mile , the road turns left at Tom Moore Rd., and the cemetery is located on the right just after the turn. It is fenced and maintained by the Simpson Cemetery Association.

Shortly after the first settlers arrived in this area in the mid 1860's, they established and built a Christian Church in the area where Mt. Pleasant Cemetery now stands. The log building was used as a schoolhouse during the week and a church on Sunday. The first minister was Rev. Allen W. Jackson who had recently arrived from Alabama with his brother and their two families, and the first schoolteacher was Miles Gibson Parker. Both are buried in this cemetery, and Rev. Jackson was the first burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Submitted by Jane P. McManus
