St. Joseph Catholic Church, Schwarzwald
John Martin Henni, Bishop of Milwaukee, on behalf of St. Joseph parish, purchased two parcels of land on March 10, 1851 in Section 4, Town of Herman. According to original land records, five acres on the north side of what is now Primrose Lane was purchased from John and Katharina Young for $0.01. St. Joseph School was erected on this piece of land. The 1862 plat map of Sheboygan County shows the owners' name spelled as Jung.
The other five acres located on the south side of the road were purchased from John Demgen and Catharine, his wife. This is the parcel on which the church, rectory and cemetery were located.
