|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Directions: From Ellijay or Hwy 515, take Hwy 52 East for approx. seven miles to intersection with Roy Road. Turn left onto Roy Road; then immediately turn right in front of the old white church and adjacent cemetery.
The old white church was built in 1859 on land donated by Barnett Wilson, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The current church was built in 1974 on additional land donated to the church by the Hudson family.
The Cartecay United Methodist Church has been meeting in this area since before 1834. In 1844, Lewis D. Ellington granted land to Cartecay Methodist Church for a church and cemetery about half a mile further down on the left side of Roy Road. When that church was destroyed by fire, a new church was built and a cemetery established in 1859 at the present location.
There are signs for the old cemetery in front of the old white church and at the entrance to the old cemetery.
