|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
On May 31, 2010 I visited Shinn Cemetery with my brother. We approached the cemetery from the north-west by walking about a mile along muddy corn fields. The cemetery was overgrown to a height of about four feet with ragweed, young Sassafras trees, grape vines, etc. Many of the tombstones were peeking above the growth but many were hidden in the weeds. The large cedar trees I remembered from my visit some 40 years ago were chopped down and laying in a heap in the south-west corner of the cemetery. A few years ago the cemetery was cleaned up and many of the tombstones show evidence of being re-erected and supported by iron frames. The cemetery is securely fenced and surrounded by cultivated fields.
