Cemetery notes and/or description:
In 1742, on two acres of land acquired from Eleazar Taylor, space for the Old Burial Ground and for a meeting house were laid out. Today, School Street runs between the Old Burial Ground and a park, the park being the original location of the Meeting House. The Old Burial Ground is bounded on the north by Main Street, the East by School Street, and the South and West by two private residences. The Old Burial Ground is enclosed in a stone wall with a gate on School Street at GPS coordinates 42.35100, -71.73568 with some parking along School Street, or across the street from the gate.

Several surveys of the cemetery have been done over the years, but due to the loss of earlier burial records, it is impossible to know for certain the burials here, except those where grave stones were placed. There are believed to be at least five unmarked Revolutionary War soldier's graves, as well that slaves were buried in unmarked graves near the back wall. Any memorials created before September 2010 have been resolved with town history records as well as 1944 published research by H.M.Cheever and December 1944 research by Hiram Harlow, and the just complete photographic exercise; this resulted in some redundant earlier memorials created due to typographic errors being deleted, as well as several new memorials being added to accompany previously missed grave stones.

In September 2010, a full photographic survey was completed, crosschecked for completeness, and the photographs posted to the appropriate findagrave memorials; as such, there are no photo requests beyond those now posted that can ever be satisfied.

Out of the total cemetery, there were only two grave stones that were unidentifiable, and their photographs were posted as well for completeness, see last name of "unidentifiable".

Since 1837, the Pine Grove Cemetery has been the primary town cemetery, located about a mile to the northeast (at the end of Scar Hill Road) of the Old Burial Ground. The town has only these two cemeteries.
