|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Located at Atholville about 3km west of Campbellton, this is the oldest British cemetery in Restigouche County. The first church in Atholville, erected at Miller's Point, then moved and then moved again to the cemetery, stood in this cemetery from about 1810. It is now gone but a memorial monument listing the names of the early pioneers and their descendents buried here stands in its place. The oldest stone is dated 1791 and there are many from the 1800s.
AV Cell (Fraser Pulp Mill) now surrounds the cemetery. Security waved us through as soon as we confirmed we were going to the cemetery. On flat land close to the river, it is beautiful spot but sadly, the peace and serenity once enjoyed here is now marred by the operational sounds of a busy pulp mill (Sep 2004)
