Since World War II, there has been an increase in the number of cremations each year. Most religious groups, including Episcopalians, approve of cremation. The Christian doctrine of the resurrection does not depend on the physical form of the remains. Today, more and more Christians are choosing cremation.
A Columbarium is a special place set aside for the interment of the cremated remains of the departed.
The Saint Peter's Columbarium was constructed in 1992 in response to a need for such a space for interment on the parish grounds. It is one of many in the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri and throughout the United States, providing a final resting place that is serene, dignified, secure and accessible. The Columbarium is reserved for members of the parish and their families. The Columbarium is located directly adjacent to the Laird Garden on the East side of the church building. It is a lovely area allowing for quiet meditation. Space is reserved in the Columbarium by acceptance of your application by the Columbarium Commission and the receipt of an initial payment to the Saint Peter's Endowment Trust Fund. If you desire additional information concerning the Columbarium or wish to reserve a niche, please contact the Church Office.
