The Cherokee Hill Baptist Churchyard is located in a wooded area just west of the well maintained Cherokee Hill Cemetery in Port Wentworth, Ga.
This is an old cemetery with many unmarked graves. references to the Baptist Church at Cherokee Hill are found in some books written about the area. One I know of appears in " Life and Labor on Argyle Island", James M Clifton.
On page 347, from the Plantation Journal: "30th October 1864 we met with a very sad loss to the Plantation. Mr William Capers our experienced overseer died on this day. He was a remarkable man in some respects.....His remains are deposited in the Churchyard, Cherokee Hill, not far from the camp(1 mile) where he died.
To date I haven't see any references to the date the church was started or any church records, but I'm sure some may exist.
