|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
From the Houston County Cemetery Book 1978 edition -
"From Crockett go about four miles on Highway 287 South. Turn left up a short hill. The cemetery is located behind Jasper Baptist Church. Legend has it that Jasper Cemetery began as a burial place for whites, but no dates have been verified as to is beginning, nor the name of the original owner. According to oral reports, the graves of two white children (2 upright white stones) remain near the Church at the back. Time has darkened the stones and dimmed the inscriptions so the names seem to be lost.
It is said that at a later time the father of the late Nelson Seaton (an African-American man) donated the same place as a cemetery for African-American. Still later Mrs. Tettier Hayden permitted an addition to the Seaton land; thus we have the Jasper Cemetery as we know it now."
