Cemetery notes and/or description: The town of Bayou Chene was located about 40 miles north of Morgan City in the Atchafalaya Basin. Due to flooding and building levees, Bayou Chene residents left the area. By 1952, the US Post Office closed, and the town is unrecognizable now. Bayou Chene Methodist Cemetery is now under 12 ft of silt due to flooding. There are no visible markers or headstones at the site. The church was moved off Bayou Chene into the Bayou Sorrel/Grand River area about 1946. The original church bell from the Bayou Chene Methodist Church is now located in the Methodist Church of Bayou Sorrel. -In February 2012, one grave marker was made & placed by Lindy Page for her great-grandmother Jennie Seneca Mire, above the 12 ft of silt. This is the only visible headstone/marker at the site. -2014 Update - Inspired by the lone marker placed by Lindy Page, more family members have made markers for their loved ones and placed them in the cemetery.
