Cemetery notes and/or description:
A mountain town cemetery. Lots of pine trees and other vegetation in the area. A slight slope with loose rock in places. The cemetery sweeps around and down to the left after you enter the main open gate, as well as, sweeps off to the right and up. Close to where you would park your car is another gate with a path to the left of it. Passing to the left of this closed gate would save you from having to enter the main gate and then making your way back down. The headstones appear, for the most part, in pretty good shape for the number of years they have been there. For the brief time that I visited this cemetery, I noted the headstones dated from about the mid 1800s; I did find one that was of a more recent time, the year 2007. The cemetery also appears to be well visited, from the various wreaths and other items I saw on the day that I visited (26 Sep 2009). The cemetery is above the town of Silver Plume, to the south. From Denver, take I-70 West. Go about 2 miles past George Town. Take the Silver Plume Exit and go south (under the highway). Stay to the left (don't take the short road to the railroad house) and continue to travel left for about a 1/4 - 1/2 mile? When you get to a, sort of, turn about and start seeing signs to "Keep Out" or "No trespassers", (because there are homes tucked away up here) then look over your shoulder to the left and you will see a gate in which to park. The main cemetery open gate is to your left and up the hill, or as mentioned, you may enter to the left of the closed gate and work your way up the hill from there. Please be considerate and respectful during your visit, as this is an active cemetery where families come often and would appreciate the quiet and privacy of their visit with their loved ones.
