|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
In 1887, a public meeting was held to ascertain if there was enough interest to organize a Cemetery Company. Mr. Gilbert McKechnie was chairman of the gathering, and a provisional board was established . They canvassed the town to raise capital to form The Company. It was later reported that the citizens of the town would give $2,000 capital toward this project, and the first Cemetery Board was elected.
Their first act was to purchase, from Mr Thomas Hutton, land north of Durham Rd and west of where the Saugeen River crossed. The property was surveyed into plots, walkways, roads and several hundred trees planted.
A Chapel was erected in 1948. There are two Columbariums.
This Cemetery is a beautiful place, always immaculately maintained.
