|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery is located 2 ½ miles east of Highway 183 on Harlan County Rd 725, or 2 miles north and 1 ½ mile west of Ragan Nebraska.
The cemetery is part of the area called Scandinavia by the pioneers who first arrived in 1872. In addition to the cemetery, there was a school, a post office, general store, blacksmith shop, and most importantly the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
All is now gone, except the cemetery and in some instances, even some of the graves have been moved to other cemeteries – mostly in Holdrege.
The original frame church built in 1879 was moved to Ragan in 1903 and another, larger church, built on the same spot in the same year. Over the years, a declining rural population led to services at the church being discontinued and the church fell into disrepair. About 1990, it was moved to the Phelps County Museum in Holdrege where it was lovingly restored.
