Cemetery notes and/or description:
Fairview Cemetery Company was established for the black community in 1904. The site was chosen because it was most centrally located in relation to the black populated districts of Lamott, Frankfort, Jenkintown, and Germantown.
The 30 acre memorial park has twelve sections named after some of the seven men who founded the cemetery and geographic locations that were largely black populated. The McCard section offers free graves to municipal employees killed in the line of duty. The Germantown section has burials of many spiritual leaders of the community and also Samuel Cosby, Sr. grandfather of Bill Cosby, the actor and comedian.
