Cemetery notes and/or description: This cemetery was extensively damaged in the 1899, 1936 and 1977 Johnstown floods. Less than 200 gravestones remain from what is estimated to be 6,000 burials. Many people were re-interred in Grandview and other cemeteries. All records before 1936 were destroyed in that flood. Last burial was in 1977, and the family of the deceased had to get a court order to allow her to be buried there. NOTE: All of the headstones that remain in this cemetery have been photographed/posted. If a person does not have a headstone photo posted to Find A Grave, either the person is in an unmarked grave, or else they were one of the many people who were eventually re-interred in other area cemeteries (on higher ground). |
