|Macoupin County Home Cemetery|
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Macoupin County Home Cemetery is located 1 1/2 miles north of Carlinville, on Route #4, then 1/4 mile east across a pasture, a plot of ground out of the E 1/2 of the N/W 1/4 of the S/E 1/4 of the section 16 in Carlinville township. This and the following information were taken from the WPA program report. "The County Home Cemetery" was laid out by the directors of Macoupin County for the burial place of the inmates of the County Home Cemetery who have no relatives to claim their body or any pauper who needs burial. Just exactly when this cemetery was laid out is not known. There is only one marker in the cemetery so inquiries were made as to the earliest date on record of the first burial made there and it was found to be in 1879. There are approximately 325 persons buried in the cemetery. These burials are in rows, one following the other as each burial occured. " The two names were take from the WPA report." This cemetery has now been cleared of brush and fenced.
