Red River County
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This cemetery is located about 8-1/2 miles southwest of Clarksville. There is a state sign pointing the direction to the cemetery. From Hwy 37 take CR 1330 and follow 1.1 mile to the cemetery site. It is on the right. There has not been found an early deed for the cemetery. RED RIVER RECOLLECTIONS page 230, Column 2, 'with the death of his son Calvin B. and his brother Crippen, both dying within two weeks in 1878, he established Lone Star Cemetery on one corner of his land', this refers to Calvin Gilmore and Evaline Bateman Jackson. There was also a deed transaction made on 18 Jun 1966 for 1/2 acre of the T&PRR Survey from Leonard L. Bowen et ux to Lone Star Cemetery filed on 22 Jul 1966 in Book CH 246 page 30. The oldest marked grave is that of Burtie Jackson, son of Calvin and Eveline, who died 15 Dec 1878. There is an OBIT in 1926 referring to this cemetery as Jackson Cemetery. This cemetery was surveyed by Lawrence and Sue Dale on a beautiful 17 and 18 Dec 1998. We returned to the site on 30 Nov 2003 and took the GPS Coordinates. We also did a re-walk of the cemetery adding new burials and noting marker changes. As of 31 Dec 2004 this cemetery had 458 documented burials. All information for this cemetery location/notes is from the books ÂBurial, Cemetery and Death Records for Red River County, Texas' by Lawrence and Sue Dale, Copyright © 2005.
