|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Searl family donated a plot of ground on the Ridge to be used as a cemetery. Many pioneers and Civil War veterans are buried there since it was one of the first in the area.
Searl Ridge Cemetery is located on "the Ridge" a few miles west of DePue, IL. The Ridge is a very wooded area that drops down to a ravine and valley to the north and to the south are smaller patches of farm land scattered between wooded areas as the Ridge winds around to the small town of Bureau (south). The cemetery is surrounded by old-growth trees. The whole area was first called Hoskins Prairie, because of the patch of prairie between the ridges and woods, but in the mid 1830s five Searl brothers - Job, John, Brown, Timothy Jr. & John - came to settle the Ridge and it was renamed.
