Departement de l'Oise
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Marissel is an eastern suburb of Beauvais, a Cathedral town between Rouen and Compiegne. The Cemetery, known locally as the 'Cimetiere Militaire National de Beauvais-Marissel', is not actually in Marissel. It is located approximately 1 kilometre north of Beauvais town centre on the Rue d'Amiens (N1). The Commonwealth war graves are along the left-hand wall of the cemetery.
Beauvais was a French hospital centre during World War I. The French National Cemetery was made in 1922. There are 19 Commonwealth burials from WWI and 158 from WWII commemorated at this site. Of these, 4 from WWII are unidentified. The British graves from WWI were moved here from Beauvais Communal Cemetery Extension and the Beauvais, Cempuis, and Grandvillers French Military Cemeteries.
