|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
From the main green gates in Longwood Gardens you will see a driveable path directly ahead to almost the back of the cemetery.
Most the graves will be to your left hand side, but Sections A, B C and D are on your right hand side, being the thin strip running between the path ahead and the hedge at the edge of the cemetery.
You are STRONGLY advised to contact the cemetery office before setting out to locate a specific grave in Barkingside Cemetery. There are in fact three cemeteries. This one, one at the adjacent church of Holy Trinity and what was known as Barkingside New Cemetery across the road, but now renamed Garden of Rest following the opening of Forest Park Cemetery and Crematorium in Forest Road. All are extensive and although the grass and vegetation in most (but not all) areas has been well kept back, erosion has inevitably taken its toll and many inscriptions are gone or very hard to read. Some graves are also clear but for whatever reason do not appear to be marked with surnames. It's also likely that many older graves were not marked, or only marked with temporary markers in the first place.
The cemetery is maintained by Forest Park Cemetery and Crematorium Ltd in Partnership with the London Borough of Redbridge.
