|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Cooper Cemetery is located in the vicinity of the Appleton community north of Brewton in T-3-N, R-9-E, Section 10. To reach the Cooper Cemetery from Brewton, get on Hwy-49 (also known as Appleton Road) and drive north for about 9.0 miles (the Weavers Cemetery is on the same road). On the right side of the highway is the Appleton Church of Christ. Directly in front of the church is a paved road called Cooper Cemetery Road. Turn left here and continue 7/10 mile. The pavement ends but the road continues toward Burnt Corn Creek. At the pavement end there is a large sign (as seen here) denoting the Cooper Cemetery. This is a large cemetery in an open setting of flat meadowland. The well-tended grounds are surrounded by cedar and oak trees. Although not fenced completely, there is a gate and it is always open.
To reach the Cooper from Interstate 65, take exit 71 and drive south on Hwy-41 toward Brewton. At a distance of about 5.5 miles is a crossroad called Lowery's Landing. Turn left (east) on Lowery's Landing and continue for 3.6 miles to Hwy-49 (Appleton Road). Turn left (heading north) on Appleton Road and continue for about 1.2 miles. The Appleton Church of Christ will be on the right. The Cooper Cemetery Road is on the left. The road is wide, curvy, on rolling hills, and well maintained.
