|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The old McAlester (McAllister) cemetery is on land that was originally owned by Jenet Buie and her husband Coll McAllister. Several members of the original Argyll Colony immigration of Scottish Highlanders to North Carolina are buried here, including: Archibald Buie (father of Jenet and the individual from whom the town of Buies Creek derives its name), his wife Catherine McCraine, Catherine's brother Hugh McCraine, and his wife Catherine Buie (sister of Archibald Buie). At a later time, the land was owned by Dr. Joseph Foy McKay (son of Dr. John Archibald McKay who is buried here). The property is currently part of Keith Hills Golf Course owned by Campbell University. Visitors to the cemetery should park at the clubhouse and notify the staff inside of the purpose of their visit. The cemetery itself is located directly behind the 3rd hole green.
