Saint Marys Cemetery

When the State began building Highway 5S in the early 1950s, workers discovered the cemetery when they accidentally unearthed some 30 bodies. Floyd Sorrentino, an Albany undertaker, was hired to disinter every body and reinter their remains at the present-day St. Mary's Cemetery. A total of 2,830 bodies were removed. According to the book, "St. Mary's Parish A History" by Jackie Murphy, 770 of these remains were identified. She estimated another 2,000 remained unidentified.
