Sunset Memorial Park (now Sunset Memorial Lawns) was established just after 1890 on land deeded from Christian Bernhardt. It was founded by David M. Lindsay (who is buried there). Early on, it was the only cemetery in the northern suburbs where African Americans could be buried. The earliest burial with a headstone is that of Pvt. James Cammon, who died in 1915.
