Cemetery notes and/or description: From the Courthouse, go north on N. Main St (SR 135) to the intersection of SR 56, turn right, go 1.7 miles to the intersection of Quaker Church Road, turn left, go 1.3 miles to Blue River Quaker Church. This church is on the RIGHT side of the road. The cemetery is east of the church.
This cemetery was established after Hicksite and Orthodox meetings were divided. The first burials were in the 1830s. Since the Underground Railroad went through the Quaker community, when some of the runaway slaves died, they were buried in the cemetery.
The above information comes from the Washington Township cemetery book written by the Washington Co Historical Society |
