|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Anfield Cemetery and Crematorium, also once known as the City of Liverpool Cemetery, and Liverpool Anfield Cemetery is on Priory Road, Anfield, Liverpool. It was opened in August 1863.
It covers an area of some 110 acres and includes axial and circular paths, two chapels and a Gothic style catacomb. The layout of the cemetery was designed by Edward Kemp. The cemetery is adjacent to Stanley Park and close to the stadia of Everton F.C. and Liverpool F.C. football clubs. The Liverpool Crematorium,(standing within the grounds) as it was originally called, was opened in 1896. This is referred to by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as Liverpool Anfield Crematorium and the names of 47 war casualties (who were cremated) are commemorated here. The cemetery has been placed on the Heritage at Risk Register because of the poor condition of the one (out of three) remaining chapels and the two catacombs.
