Cemetery notes and/or description:
Located south of South Street, north of Brister Street, east of Morgan Street and west of Lee Street.
The cemetery was established by a gift of land from the Sutton family to the Town of Bogue Chitto in 1880 to be used as a cemetery only. The first known burial was in 1876.
Many residents of the town of Norfield were buried in this cemetery, especially during the early years of the 1900's when the Butterfield Sawmill operated in that town.
Most of the unmarked graves were originally marked with wooden picket fence type stakes which have deteriorated over the years.
This cemetery is not associated with any church. |
