The cemetery was started as a family cemetery by the family of James Landrum, a white man, who married Rebecca Duncan. They were the parents of thirteen children, who were the founders of this cemetery. They are: Nannie, Elizabeth, Hiram Terrill, Charles, James, Rebecca, Benjamin Franklin, David Dixon, Jemima, John, Aaron, Dorcas, and Rachel.
Most of this family of thirteen children and their descendants are buried here, but not all. John Landrum, one of the brothers, settled on the land, where the cemetery is now located in 1867, and for years it was used for the family only, but in later years outsiders begin to bury there and at statehood the plot of about two acres was deeded by the Cherokee Nation to the State of Oklahoma. The land was plotted, a corporation formed and officers elected, and lots are now being sold to any who wish to bury there.
