New Friedensberg Mennonite Cemetery
Vona
Kit Carson County
Colorado  USA

Cemetery notes and/or description:
This cemetery was named after the Friedensberg Mennonite Church of Bon Homme County in South Dakota where settlers migrated to Eastern Colorado in 1907 (Schultz, Becker, Boese families). It is located about 7 miles S (on county Rd 21) and 1.5 miles W (on County Rd M) of Vona, Colorado in what was known as the Pleasant Valley Community. The old church building of 1912 is currently not in use. The first minister, Rev. Henry U. Schmidt (1879 - 1965), gave a plot of four acres in the northwest corner of his homestead for the site of the church and the Mennonite cemetery. Check here for more to be read cum grano salis. Prior to 1875 the South Dakota families came from Russian Volhynia (Karolswalde, Heinrichsdorf) and previously from Brandenburg province, Neumark district, Friedeberg county (Kreis) in Prussia (c.1835).
