Cemetery notes and/or description:
St Ambrose's Church, Grindleton, is located in the village of Grindleton, which is situated about 3 miles (5 km) northeast of Clitheroe, Lancashire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Bowland, the archdeaconry of Craven, and the diocese of Bradford. Its benefice is united with that of St Peter and St Paul, Bolton by Bowland. The church is designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building.
The present church was opened only months after the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. It is dedicated to St Ambrose of Milan, the patron saint of beekeepers on St Ambrose's Feast Day on the 7th December 1805 - beekeeping being very common here at the time.
The church was altered under the Lancaster architects Paley, Austin and Paley in 1895. Out went the box pews and decked pulpit to give a new focus on Holy Communion with a new altar and choir stalls in an extended chancel. The church has some glorious stained glass which contrasts to with its plain white walls and highly stencilled pipe organ. There is an etched window in memory of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Grindleton School.
