The original cemetery, to which the title was deeded by Alexander Schaeffer and Anna Engel, his wife, in the year 1763, to John Wolfesperger and John Louser, in trust for the use of the Reformed and Lutheran congregations of the town as a burial ground in common. It was comprised of a single town lot, number 225, in the general plan of Schaefferstown. By the will of Samuel Rex, who died in 1835, an acre of ground was added to the old cemetery for the use of the two congregations in common. Shortly thereafter, an amicable division of the ground was effected, the Reformed congregation taking the Northerly and the Lutheran the Southerly part.
The map on the cemetery page outlines the various sections of the cemetery, Evangelical, Lutheran and Reformed*, Bucher's, Bucher Commons, Steinmetz, Bender, Iba, United Brethren, Horst, Horst West and Keller/Kleinfelter. While Keller/Kleinfelter seems to have a defined boundary between them, cemetery staff has confirmed that they do not separate the two and that Section is known by both names.
*Lutheran and Reformed is also referred together as one section. Using the Brendle lists published in the aforementioned book, an attempt has been made to find the division. Memorials from this list show either Lutheran or Reformed in the plot field. Newer memorials in this section simply say Lutheran and Reformed as it was not possible to determine the boundary.
