Cemetery notes and/or description:
Also known as the Pine Furnace Methodist Church Cemetery.

This cemetery is all that remains of the Pine Creek Methodist Church. At the beginning, it was a Methodist-Episcopal Church Service when it was first organized in 1846 and no one, to whom I have spoken, can tell me when it became just a Methodist Service. The original services were held in the Furnace School House, a 1000 feet to the northeast of the cemetery. The location of the Church was just South of the Old Furnace. On July 22, 1873, George Bossinger conveyed an acre from his farm to the Trustees of the Pine Creek Methodist Episcopal Church for $1. A frame church was erected on the site, in that year and a cemetery established to the rear. Although the church was razed circa 1920, the cemetery remains well maintained even to the present day (Oct. 2009)...The first Preacher is recorded as Rev. A.E. Curry.

Driving Directions:

From Kittanning, Pennsylvania, at the intersection of Pennsylvania State Route 85 and Pennsylvania State Route 28/66, drive North on Pa 28/66 for a total distance of 3.75 miles, to the intersection of PA 28/66 and Pine Furnace Road.

(There was no road sign to identify this intersection on the day I was there.)

You will easily recognize this intersection, by the following: After you pass the Pine Creek Baptist Church, at the top of a hill, on 28/66, the intersection is at the bottom of that hill and is the right turn, immediatly after you cross the bridge over Pine Creek and it is exactly 0.96 miles from the Baptist Church.

On Pine Furnace Road, bear right, at the intersection of Cornman Road and drive a total of 1.1 miles to the Railroad tracks and a Bridge over Pine Creek. Cross these tracks and bridge to continue on Pine Furnace Road.

The Cemetery is at the top of the hill, on the right, about 0.5 miles from the bridge.
