|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Shady Grove Baptist Cemetery aka Shady Grove Cemetery and McCLuskey Cemetery.
The cemetery is located within the boundary of Harbins Park, but there is a private driveway off of Luke Edwards Road with two gates allowing access to the cemetery. The entrance is located just before the entrance to the park as you travel south on Luke Edwards Rd. from New Hope Rd.
This cemetery is private and very well maintained.
The residents of the Shady Grove community were descendants of a group of black farmers who settled this immediate area after the Civil War. The area was once a vibrant rural community of farms, a church, a school, a mill and this cemetery. The Old Primitive Baptist Church and the Shady Grove School were established in 1885 and were adjacent to the cemetery. The church was in use until the 1950's when both were dismantled. The cemetery contains approximately 135 burials and is owned by Shady Grove Cemetery Association, whose member's ancestors are interred here. Please respect their final resting place and use caution in this immediate area.
