|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Latvian name of the town is Saldus while the old German name is Frauenburg. Either is understood by most of the locals.
The cemetery is 8 kilometres south of the city of Saldus and was opened by the Volksbund on 04 September 1999.
Consisting of 5 acres, it is the largest war cemetery in the Baltic countries and is used to bring German war graves from the Kurland-region together. There are now more than 25,000 graves in the cemetery, and there is room for a total of 30,000 graves.
Each grave is marked with a stone cross and has the name and data from four fallen soldiers on the front and also 4 on the back. There is a 7.50 meter-high metal high cross which stands at the highest point of the site and is widely visible.
Through May to October, there is a manned information booth about the cemetery and it also has a listing of those currently buried there.
