|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Plank Road Cemetery is located on State Route 274 west of New Bremen near the Bunker Hill Industrial Park.
In October 1853, trustees of a "St. John's" Church bought one acre of land for $100 in the NW corner of the East half of the NW quarter of Section 15, Twp. 7 South, Range 4 East. Conveyance records show that in May 1856, property in this same area was sold to "N.B. & Ft. R. Plank Road Co."
The first burial recorded for this one-acre "Plank Road Cemetery" was for August Andreas Schulte, who died 1/10/1860. The last recorded burial was Philip Wolff, who died 9/27/1938.
Burials in this listing were recorded in the 1970s from then-existing tombstones, along with information recorded in church records.
The landscaped sign, flag, etc. was created by Andy Topp as an Eagle Scout project ca. 2003. Prior to that, there was no sign to identify the cemetery.
