|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This very old cemetery is located on private property on Hill Grove Knob, near the town of Ekron, just off of Stringtown Road. This cemetery deteriorated over time and is said to have been vandalized many years ago. The route to the cemetery is steep terrain on private property with gates that secure cattle so permission must be obtained by the Wayne Roberts family. No exceptions.
A separate section was set aside for slaves, marked only with fieldstones, so their names are still unknown.
Until recently, much of the indentification of burials was based on a visit to that cemetery in November 1930 by Mrs. Byron M. (Frances Shacklett) Fast, Mrs. Guy Hardin and Mrs. Bernice Price. Yet, many markers were no longer visible in 1930.
Note: Things have changed dramatically since a restoration was started in 2004 when the cemetery was fenced by Wayne Roberts. In 2005, about 5 volunteers removed trees and undergrowth. In 2007, the ground was probed in order to locate hidden headstones.
The dedicated people responsible for this restoration of the cemetery include Marcus Payne, Wayne Roberts, Rick Roberts, other Roberts family members not named here, Jess Scott and Danny Payne.
