The county home is located in Lawrence Township in Clearfield on the old Leonard farm where famous eplorer Zenas Leonard (1809-1857) was born. THe home received its first "inmates" as the residents were called, in December of 1895. As many as 140 people were hosed there in 1917.
Soon after the opening of the county home, rsidents were being buried behind the bilding in a plot across the railroad tracks. Many did not have markers. The last known burials were in 1951. today there is nothing much that remains of this cemetery. Its location eas discovered in brush approximately 1,600 feet behind the county home building with only three markers found.
